CELEBRATION PREPARATIONS CONTINUE
Much like the Morrell mushrooms that suddenly appear in our timbers each spring, “Welcome to Troy” pole banners are “popping up” around the city. The banners, designed by local resident George Stanton, sport a black and white drawing of the Doniphan County Courthouse. The Courthouse, designed by noted architect George Washburn, is 100 years old this year, 2006. Like the logo adopted for t
he celebration, the banners were designed to demonstrate both the county celebration of the Courthouse Centennial and the city celebration of Troy’s Sesquicentennial. Local businesses, agri-businesses, professional entities and families sponsored the banners as has been noted by printing their names at the bottom of the banners.
The Celebration Committee is very appreciative of the effort the city crew is making to install the banners. Approximately one-half of them appeared before Memorial Day. Be prepared to see many more start “popping up” soon.
The committee planning the big celebration sincerely hopes every citizen of Doniphan County will plan on taking part in this once-in-a-lifetime event. Every effort has been made to be sure all the county banks have information available about the events. Check the website often for updates. www.celebratetroy.com
