Community Band to Kick Off Celebration

The Troy Sesquicentennial-Doniphan County Courthouse Centennial will kick-off on Friday, June 30, 2006, with a Band Concert on the courthouse square. The band, under the direction of David Reiter, Director of Bands at Mound City, Missouri, R2 Schools and Highland, Kansas, resident, is currently being formed. Community members from across the area are encouraged to join, especially adult musicians. Anyone from Jr. High student to Senior Citizen is welcome. Practices are scheduled for the month of May every Sunday at 4:00 and Thursday at 6:00 in the basement of the Highland United Presbyterian Church, on Main Street in Highland. Two performances beyond the June 30th concert are scheduled; Highland Memorial Day and Highland Fourth of July. Mr. Reiter requests that members be able to commit to at least two of the three.

Quilt Show Taking Shape

The time has finally arrived to register for the quilt show being held as part of the Troy Sesquicentennial. The show, to take place on Saturday, July 1, 2006, will be held in the Masonic Temple at Troy. All categories of quilts are being accepted. To register, call Jean at 785-985-2511. Organizers will want a brief history of your quilt(s).

Advance Tickets for Homes Tour Available

Advance tickets are available for the Troy Historic Homes Tour that will also take place on July 1. Seven homes will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. that day. These include the Bond residence at 115 E. Chestnut, the Triplett Town and Country Farm at 602 S. Locust, the Euler residence at 305 N. Liberty, the Weiser residence at 336 N. Liberty, the Needham residence at 320 N. Liberty, the Williamson residence at 501 S. Main and the Boder-Strong Mansion on State Street at Park.

Tickets may be reserved at the advance price of $8.00 through the Celebration Committee, Historic Homes Tour, P.O. Box 700, Troy, KS 66087. Tickets will be held in will-call at the Tennant-Baker House, 335 E. Walnut, Troy, for pick-up on Tour day. Organizers request “Please: no children under five.” No one will be admitted without a ticket. Tickets will be available at the Tennant-Baker House Tour day for $10.00.
